How close can you get to a goat? It's up to them and if there's food involved. The desire to eat is their driving force and this goat on the left here would get very up close and personal for a few little bits of whatever you had.

Ah, goats. You love them and hate them over and over again!
Cunning, clever, stupid and evil all at one time. They'll eat the
weeds you want them to and they'll find a way to eat young trees you don't want them to no matter how many times you improve
the fencing. But late in 2007 I had to give them away as I had too many animals for my small acreage. They went to be part of a large flock not too far from here, I do miss them.

These are the first 3 goats I got back in early 2006. The one standing up decided to drop dead within the first week or two so I got two more.

Goats prefer to keep out of the rain so I had built a 'goatshed' before I got them. One of the goats kept getting booted out so I had to extend the shed.

I sometimes called this goat Mr Sniffy even though they were all females as it would sniff any food I hand fed it for too long and drive me nuts. Most of the time another goat would grab the food.

Here's the extended shed. All this extra effort because the wimpy goat had to stand out in the rain even though there was room for 6 goats at least. But it gets worse, the goat that stayed under the shed decided to use the new front section which put wimpy goat back out in the rain so I had to partition it into two sections. A shed with three sections big enough for 12 goats used by just 5 goats who couldn't get on with each other.

This goat was raised by humans and seemed to prefer their company. She would often stay apart from the other goats, stayed under the back of the goatshed by herself when it rained.

The goat at the front (I never named them, sorry) was the unspoken boss and the one with it was like second in command, they usually hung out together like they are here.

Just a general shot of some of the goats.
The pecking order of the goats was always interesting, there was the boss goat and the wimp goat and all the others in between with everyone happy with the order, even wimpy goat was happy knowing her place. When wimpy goat got turned into sausages there was a struggle between two of the goats as to who would become the wimp goat.

This is wimpy goat on the left and on the right is the least interesting of all the goats. The most cautious of all the goats though after a long time it got to eating some food out of my hand. But it was also the least bothersome of all the goats.

Although cautious, this goat was also curious and if I sat still it would come up to me usually from behind and nibble at my shirt or lick my leg or hair. It liked to be hand fed and because she seemed to trust that I only fed them stuff worth eating, would guts down anything I held out and ensured itself of getting more then the others who were more picky.

And here's my all time favourite photo and it's of the wimpy goat which was also a fairly dumb looking goat as well. Also the goat most persistent at getting through fencing to eat my trees. I got fed up with it and she ended up being 19kg of very delicious sausages.

I never took a good photo of all the goats sitting on the roof of their shed, they spent a lot of their time there snoozing in the sun.

For food this goat would forget how close it got to me.
